STRANGFORD DUP MP Jim Shannon is calling calling on farm owners and members of farming families to take advantage of the grant assistance that is presently available through the Down Rural Area Partnership.

He said, “There is a tight time-scale. The scheme opened on the 7th of January this year and continues until the 14th of February, so apply now and check on www.eugrants.org to find out more details.

“There are four  different sections: Diversification into non-agricultural activities; Technical support fund: and Capital and Resource fund.  There has been tremendous interest in Tourist Opportunities over the last few years with over 1500 jobs created through the Tourism Projects. There is help for encouragement of tourism activities and there is yet more that can be done given the correct incentives. A new category is the conservation and upgrading of the Rural Heritage. If you are interested – apply now – the door could be open for you in 2011!”
