Down Arts Centre is delighted to present two world-class but very different musical performances.

Jeannette Byrne will bring a flavour of France to Downpatrick with No Regrets – The Music of Edith Piaf at 8pm on Saturday 27 September, followed by a performance by celebrated singer and song-writer, Beth Neilsen Chapman, at 8pm on Sunday 28 September.

October 2013 saw the 50th anniversary of the death of the legendary French singer, Edith Piaf, and Jeannette Byrne will perform her own tribute to Piaf, No Regrets – The Music of Edith Piaf at DAC on Saturday 27 September. With wonderful arrangements and musicians, the show is evocative of Parisian streets in a bygone time, with songs of love, life and loss that tear at the heart strings.

The triumphant tragedy of Edith Piaf continues to fascinate. She is the essence of France and French music and yet she conquered a world that was just discovering rock and roll. Classics like La Vie en Rose and Je Ne Regrette Rien need no translation, she communicated deep emotions in a manner easily felt, yet impossible to explain.

Jeannette’s passion for this music originated from her French grandmother and has driven her to perform and record many of her favourites.

Whether with an orchestra, a café band or simply a pianist, Jeannette always enthrals and enriches her audiences with astonishing renditions of these great songs.

Performing at DAC on Sunday 28 September and considered by many to be one of the finest singer/songwriters of her generation, Beth Nielsen Chapman has penned hits for artists including Emmylou Harris, Bette Midler, Elton John and Willie Nelson. In concert, her songs are interwoven with wonderful story telling, all rooted in folk and Americana traditions, adding to the emotion and magic of the experience.

The true thread that runs through all her work is her great passion for the well-written song. It is also clear that she has a blast performing to a live audience, so don’t miss the opportunity to be part of what promises to be a wonderful night of music and song.
