MOURNE Sinn Féin councillor Sean Doran has condemned those responsible for erecting flags in the town centre of Kilkeel.

Councillor Doran said: ”I have been contacted by a number of shopkeepers from Kilkeel who are disgusted that loyalists put up new flags in Kilkeel town centre last Saturday morning. dn_screen

“At a time when every town in Ireland is preparing to erect Christmas decorations Kilkeel gets more flags. Over the last year Kilkeel has made the head lines in the press for all the wrong reasons and surely now on the run up to the festive season it’s time to give the traders in Kilkeel a chance to attract some  customers to the town.

“I think every flag in the Mournes no matter what they represent should be taken down if not for good at least for over the festive period. I would also ask the other political representatives, Kilkeel Chamber of Commerce and Kilkeel Development Association to be more vocal on this matter and stand up for all the people and traders they are supposed to represent.
