'Cooking With Elvis' – Strictly For The Over 18's

Cooking With Elvis The rising star in the acting world is to appear in a new show making its way to theatres throughout the country to heat up the colder autumn evenings. Shaun, who went to St.Patrick’s Grammar school before studying drama at Queen’s University Belfast, is to play as Stuart in an outrageous comic farce called Cooking With Elvis. The play is being brought to the stage by Belfast’s leading physical theatre company Bruiser and promises a compelling, frantic and funny night’s entertainment in true Bruiser style. Shaun has performed professionally with a number of Northern Ireland theatre companies including Replay, Tinderbox and Greenshoot Productions but this is his debut performance with Bruiser. The show opens in the Waterfront Hall in Belfast for three nights from 22nd September before embarking on a 15-venue nationwide tour throughout Ireland. It stops off in County Down for a performance in The Lodge at Castlewellan on 8th October. Written by Lee Hall, who is best known for his international stage hit Billy Elliot, Cooking with Elvis is a hilarious and often tender dark comedy about domestic turmoil, sex, loss, regret… and cooking! Stuart plays the role of naive and hapless young baker called Stuart, who embarks on an affair with Jill’s alcoholic mother and moves into the family home. The play has been delighting audiences since 1999 and has received rave reviews and theatre goer reactions. The Bruiser production sees the show being performed by a Northern Irish theatre company for the first time. Bruiser’s company manager Stephen Beggs, who will be leaving his desk behind and taking to the road in the role of Dad in Cooking with Elvis, said, “Cooking with Elvis is an explosively funny production and we are so excited about entertaining audiences with this unforgettable show throughout September and October. It’s definitely not for the prudish and packs quite a punch but we guarantee that those who come along to see us won’t be disappointed.” Shaun added, “Anyone who enjoys live comedy will love Cooking With Elvis. And, although this is by no means an Elvis tribute night some of his best-loved songs are featured throughout the performance. As the show strapline states – ‘sex, food and The King – what more could you ask for?’” [caption id="attachment_28191" align="alignright" width="400" caption="Sean Blaney in the kitchen kept at bay in Cooking With Elvis."][/caption] Gilly Campbell, Dance and Drama Officer, Arts Council of Northern Ireland said, “Bruiser’s production of Cooking With Elvis will undoubtedly demonstrate the company’s ability to pull off a high-quality, fast-paced and rocking show! The Arts Council of Northern Ireland is delighted to be supporting the production through Lottery Funding.” After watching this play you will definitely be ‘all shook up’ !
