Islanderry Trout Still Biting Despite Heavy Rain

DESPITE the recent heavy rain and winds there are still good quanties of trout being caught on both lakes at Islandderry Fishery, Dromore.

Robert Dale, Banbridge tried his hand at fishing a bite indicator on the main lake for the first time with a orange blob to release a nice total of 21 trout, all from the jetty.

Reservoir Levels May Alter During Maintenance Work

NI Water is in the process of carrying out maintenance and essential safety work at some of its impounding reservoirs. In order to do this, NI Water needs to lower the level of some reservoirs which may have an impact on angling. Work will be staggered (see provisional dates below).

2012 Fishing Licence Fees Frozen

SPORTS Minister Carál Ní Chuilín has announced that there will be no increase in fishing licence fees for the 2012 fishing seasons.

In making the announcement, the Minister said, “In light of the current economic climate, I have decided to keep the salmon and inland fishing licence fees at 2011 levels. This is the third year in a row that there has been no annual increase. I hope this will continue to ease the financial burden on those involved in the commercial fishing sectors and encourage others to enjoy recreational fishing.

Brownies In Quoile Pondage But Pike Scarce

OVER the past couple of years there has been a dramatic change in angling opportunities in the Quoile Pondage area.

About five years ago there was a healthy head of pike in the River Quoile which certainly entertained many local and visiting anglers along its banks. There were even a couple of thirty pounders landed and I myself hooked at Steamboat Quay a pike (but failed to land it) – the proverbial one that got away – which must have been four feet long at least. It was a monster! A dream fish.

Still Plenty Of Action At Carrickmannon

Catch rates have remained high, particularly on the Lake where some over-wintered trout with full tails have been taken recently. These fish weighed between two and five pounds.

From 1st October the fishery will be closing at 5.00pm.
