Castlewellan GAC Weekly 13/10/13

Rory (AKA Rory) – and I am not quite sure which one I was sitting beside – poured his bottle of Lavendel Merlot (one of Spain’s finest wines!) writes Martin McCleanAcross the table a hand-jiving Buster was reading the script. According to Buster the script is all about him! God help his good wife! It was a cast meeting in the salubrious surrounding of a local restaurant where Rory and The Priest drank copious amounts of wine. They were all in agreement. Mrs B’s Boys would get another airing. The phone buzzed, it was our globetrotting referee from Kuala Lumpur. He is ready to go again. The new script is ready and the cast is committed to performing again this Christmas.

Going by their singing ability on Friday Night with the Bru ladies (who incidentally sang that wee bit better), there is a bit of work to do and the voice coaches have been hired. The shows will run on Friday and Saturday Night the 20 and 21 December 2013. No doubt there will be a big demand for tickets again. When they go on release in a number of weeks time please get them early. Avoid disappointment!

There is Castlewellan representation in this Sunday’s Down Senior Football Championship Final. Sadly it is not the Senior Footballers. Top referee Gavin Corrigan won’t mind me saying that. That said it is a huge honour for Gavin to be refereeing his Third Senior Final having been the man in the middle in the 2006 and 2008 final respectively. Gavin has had the honour of refereeing two All-Ireland Ladies Finals in 2011 and 2012 and an Ulster Under 21 Final in 2010. He will be used to the occasion and what goes along with it. He will be joined by fellow club man John Ward, his father Paddy, Jimmy Flynn and Benji Ward who will be his Umpires for Down Club Football’s biggest day. We wish them all well and the best of luck for this big occasion.

There will be a meeting of all Juvenile Coaches from all codes on Friday October 25th at 8.30pm in the Social Club. It is important that all coaches attend. The meeting will last for a maximum of one hour. If you are unavailable please contact John O’Neill on 07711 738610 or email oneilljohnj@yahoo.co.uk.

The winter fun coaching programme will commence in the main gym in St Malachy’s High School Castlewellan on Wednesday November 6th and run for six consecutive Wednesday nights until Wednesday December 11th.
