SINN Fein Councillor Stephen Burns has written to Roads Service requesting the reinstatement of a 30mph speed limit at the Dundrum road end of Maghera Village.
Down District Councillor Burns said, “The 30 mph limit at Ballyginney Park was changed to a national speed limit of 60mph. This meant the 30mph sign was moved about 400 yards closer into Maghera village.
“Recently, two family pets have been knocked down and killed on the road in separate incidents, and residents are concern that a young child could be the next victim
“I have been contacted by local residents and informed of a number of incidents, including a speeding vehicle mounting the grass verge and I will be lobbing Roads Service to restore the 30mph limit and to introduce traffic additional calming measures throughout the village”.
“The safety of residents, particularly the young and vulnerable, must be paramount. Local people should be able to let their children play outside their homes, without the worry of speeding vehicles”, added Councillor Burns.
