ARDS SDLP Councillor Joe BoBoyle has condemned the robbery at the home of two senior citizens in their eighties on Portaferry Road. The Police in Ards are appealing for information following this robbery at the home of the elderly couple.

Some time between 8pm and 9pm on 12thJanuary, four masked males entered the house. The male and female occupant, both aged in their 80’s, were held in one room while the house was ransacked. It is not known at this stage what was taken.

It us believed the four males made off in a silver Volkswagen car. The male and female sustained bruising and were left very shaken by their ordeal.

Police are appealing to anyone who observed a silver Volkswagen car in the area or anyone who may have observed the males entering or leaving the house or anyone who has information in relation to this incident to contact them on 0845 600 8000. Information about crime may also be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.

Councillor Boyle said, “people are just shocked at this incident. The Ards peninsula has by and large been relatively safe from such attacks on vulnerable. pensioners. It highlights the need for the elderly to take whatever security measures they need to take to protect themselves and their property.

“I sincerely hope they are both well after their traumatic ordeal. People in our community do need to keep an eye open and look after the elderly, especially on these dark nights and in the bad weather.”
