£500 Bursaries Open For Young People In Ards

Young people in Ards have the chance to scoop a £500 award by applying now for the annual Blair Mayne Bursary.

Anyone under the age of 25 who lives in the Ards Borough and who ‘aspires to excellence’ in one of three categories – sport, academic study or adventure training – can apply for a Bursary as a way to help them to achieve a goal or realise a particular project.

Recent awards have gone to talented sports men and women, musicians, students and adventurers, all of whom received bursaries to pursue their ambitions.dn_screen

Chairman of the Blair Mayne Bursary Committee, Alderman Ronnie Ferguson, is encouraging young people to take advantage of the funding on offer:

He said: “This is a unique opportunity for any young person from the Ards Borough to benefit from funding of £500 towards realising a particular ambition or taking a step further on the road to fulfilling their potential. The application process is very straightforward and I look forward to receiving a diverse range of applications”.

The Bursary was established with excess funds from a public appeal to erect a memorial to Lt Col Blair Mayne DSO, and is intended to reflect his life and achievements by encouraging young people to aspire to excellence.

The closing date for applications is Friday 15 November 2013.
