Fears that the Trust’s community equipment store was going to be taken out of the area have finally been proved groundless with the opening of the new store on the Downshire hospital site. The Trust has also appealed for the return of equipment which is no longer required by clients
The new store, which replaces the one at Struell Road, has had significant capital investment and now has adjacent parking to facilitate staff in loading equipment into their cars for transport to clients.
The front of the building houses returned equipment which is then transported to the Business Service Organisation’s Procurement & Logistics Service at Lissue. The equipment is then decontaminated and if fit for purpose, reissued to clients.
The main part of the building houses clean equipment, which staff can easily access to take out to clients in the local Downpatrick area. Most of this equipment, such as mobility aids, is essential to clients to enable them to remain independently within their own homes.
Margaret Moorehead, Assistant Director Allied Health Professionals in the South Eastern HSC Trust said: “The Trust Estates Department has been key in the renovation of the store and in particular Philip McMaster who was project co-ordinator. Stephen Mills and Jim Clarke from Business Services Organisation have also worked tirelessly over the Christmas and New Year holidays to ensure a smooth transition for staff and I would like to thank them for all the help and support they have provided”.
The new store is part of a wider review of community equipment, which is being carried out across the South Eastern Trust area.
If you have any equipment which is no longer required, this can be collected from your home by arrangement. Please contact the Business Service Organisation’s Procurement & Logistics Service on Tel: (028) 9262 2111 to arrange collection.
