Condemnation Of Murder In Comber

POLICE are investigating a murder on Wednesday 11 January in Comber and have made an appeal to the public for information.

Following the incident,  three men aged 54, 26 and 25 have been arrested today in connection  with the murder. The three men were arrested in the County Down area and have been taken to Antrim Serious Crime Suite for questioning.

Detectives have now launched a murder enquiry following the fatal shooting of a 36-year old man at the Ballydrain Road, Comber, area last night which has shocked the area.

Police would like to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area between 8pm and 9:15pm last night. It is believed that a number of vehicles made off from the scene along the Ballydrain Road in the direction of Lisbane.

Strangford MP Jim Shannon has expressed his shock at the murder which took place in Comber last night. He said: "This murder has shocked the entire community and further afield. The ripples have passed from one end of Strangford to another and I speak on behalf of my community when I say that we are thinking family of this man at this time.

“Having spoken to the PSNI, I know that leads were being followed and arrests have been made. Anyone who has ever been to the lovely town of Comber knows how out of place this kind of action is and I have every belief that the community will be working together to bring all relevent information to the attention of the PSNI. Once again I offer my condolences to the family and friends of this young man."

Alliance Strangford MLA McCarthy said he was appalled at the murder in Comber. Mr McCarthy, has expressed shock at news that a body has been found in a car in the Comber area on Wednesday evening and that a murder investigation has been launched.

He added: “I am absolutely appalled and am totally stunned at this news. My thoughts are obviously with the family and friends of the man whose body was found and this must be a horrific time for them.

“The whole community is in a state of shock. Comber is a quiet residential town and there is deep sadness at this tragic news. Anyone with any information at all that might be of use to the police in investigating this murder should contact them immediately.”
