AS the tourism increasingly plays an important role in the local economy, it is critical visitors have that unique experience that makes them want to return with their friends.

South Eastern Regional College (SERC) is keen to play it's part in helping those working in local hospitality and tourism organisations to provide services that meet all of the visitor’s needs. To help introduce new ideas that have been successful in enhancing the tourist experience in other regions, the College is organising a series of free seminars over the coming months.

Paul Walsh, South Eastern Regional College (SERC) Downpatrick Campus Manager and Kieran Swail SERC Travel and Tourism lecturer, finalise plans for the upcoming series of seminars for those working within the local Tourism Sector.

Speaking at the launch of the seminar Kieran Swail, Travel and Tourism lecturer at SERC said: “In my opinion there are two big steps the local organisations need to embrace. Firstly, howto maximise the benefits new technology such as Social Media can bring to their business, and secondly there is a great need for different companies to continue to work together for everyone’s mutual benefit.”

The series of seminars will begin on Tuesday 21 February at the Downpatrick Campus at 5.30pm with a seminar by Mr Aidan Breslin, Chair of the Social Media Business Association in Northern Ireland, who will share his experience of how to effectively use social media to engage and encourage people to visit the area and to use the services provided by local businesses.

On Tuesday 6 March, Terry Lambert of Hilltop Treks will host a seminar on how to effectively cater for all of the needs of those who want to come to the area to participate in outdoor pursuits and adventure activities.

At the seminar on Tuesday 17 April representatives from the 7stanes Mountain Bike Park in Scotland will explain how they have developed their product and brand through collaboration with a range of other organisations.

On Tuesday 15 May, Roger Warnock, a specialist in Search Engine Optimisation will share valuable tips on how to get found on Google and other key search engines.
