Clarke Welcomes Farm Modernisation Programme

SINN Féin South Down MLA Willie Clarke has welcomed the announcement by Agriculture Minister Michelle O’Neill that £5.5million will be available for the Farm Modernisation Programme.
Mr. Clarke stated: “This is the third tranche of money to be made available for farmers to bring their machinery and equipment up to standard. Already we have seen nearly 3000 farmers avail of the previous funding and this new money will ensure other farmers are also able to upgrade their plant machinery.
“It’s important in the competitive world of farming that our farmers have the latest technology in order to compete in what is now a global market.
“I welcome the fact that the Minister has acquired £1.4million more than was previously allocated and this extra funding will go a long way in ensuring that all farmers will get a fair allocation of funds.
“The money should be available in April 2012 and farmers should begin to prepare their submissions in order to access the funding,” he added.
