DOWN News will be upgrading its Internet newspaper website over the next week and hopefully it will be a better experience for the many surfers and supporters since it was first set up in October 2009.
The website may be down for up to two days with some other technical issues, but this is necessary to accommodate the transfer of hosting etc to improve the service generally.
There is a considerable amount of data to work with and it is a complex process.
Since Down News set up two years ago, it has reached 500,000 page views in Facebook, has completed almost 5000 stories updating daily, and has around 4500 photographs in the Flickr viewer. Down News was successful in winning the Best use of Social Media category in the Down Business awards held last February in the Burrendale Hotel in Newcastle.
I will upload some stories onto Down News Facebook over the next week or so so that everyone can read some local news and enjoy the photographs particularly of the Halloween celebrations.
The improved website will be much more functional and with a few more modifications over the weeks to come will add to everyone’s enjoyment and Internet experience.
Down News is still a FREE Internet newspaper and welcomes the support from its many users since it was first set up, and reader feedback and contributions are very welcome.
Many thanks.
Jim Masson.
