SOUTH Eastern Regional College (SERC) gave students the opportunity to get hands-on experience in a range of disciplines at their recent ‘Have a Go’ event.
The event was part of WorldSkills Have a Go, a nationwide drive to create one million opportunities for young people to try a bite-sized taster of a new skill, trade or profession.

John Nixon Head of Construction and Engineering Services at SERC said, “The event was designed to showcase the range of high quality skills training opportunities offered by the College and to open students’ minds to the huge variety of career possibilities that are on offer to them. The event was very successful and gave students a valuable opportunity to experience at first hand the variety of exciting options available to them.
“Students experienced new skills from plastering to motor vehicle, motor vehicle to bricklaying and bricklaying to plastering. Encouraging students to move to areas that they had not been in before was challenging, but from the feedback they all seemed to enjoy it.” Continued John.
Ken Web, Principle and Chief Executive of SERC added, “We recognise the importance of investing in skills and giving people the chance to try something new.The standard of our education and training system in professional and technical areas is world class and it is important that we promote the opportunities which skills training can bring both for the individual and the economy.
“We want to encourage as many students as possible to have a go at a new skill and inspire them to find out more about skills training and careers, and the rewards which can be attained.”
